Kickboxing Fitness
Whether you are trying to improve your body image, increase your health and well-being, or learn some serious, effective Kickboxing techniques for personal protection and fun, this program offers something for everybody!
Our Kickboxing Fitness drills and techniques are derived from Muay Thai, one of the most respected, effective, combat-tested striking arts in the entire world. Muay Thai, which originated in Thailand over 700 years ago, utilizes tight, crisp punches very similar to western boxing, along with devastating elbow and knee strikes and crushing shin kicks. A recent scientific documentary, (“The Science of Fighting”), definitively proved the Muay Thai knee strike to be the most powerful and destructive strike of any martial arts or fighting technique known to man. The devastating strike registered numbers (measuring impact energy) similar to that of a 35 mph car crash!
Our Kickboxing Fitness workouts consist of a blend of Muay Thai drills with a variety of calisthenics (pushups, various abdominal and core strengthening exercises, squat thrusts, etc.).
There is no sparring in this program. Strikes are practiced in the air, on heavy bags, and on hand-held kicking shields and focus mitts. No previous experience is required to participate in this program. People at any level of personal fitness are welcome! If you don’t think you are in good enough shape, then you should definitely enroll immediately!
Students are required to have 12 oz. boxing gloves. Leather wrap gloves and shin/instep guards are also highly recommended. These items can all be purchased through our Pro Shop.
The one thing more important than getting healthy, strong and fit is having fun doing it! At Calhoon’s, not only are we getting an excellent workout derived from legitimate Muay Thai techniques, but it’s a BLAST!!!
